Living Large

I actually don’t know what living large means. I suspect it is not me letting my belt out. But I am sometimes puzzled and a little frustrated by those who feel that following Jesus requires some kind shrinking of one’s life. Many assume that following Jesus means embracing a set of restrictions that will “cramp their style” and interfere with their enjoyment of life. They think faith in Jesus leads to a small place.

I find this frustrating because my experience is the exact opposite. Jesus invites me out of the smallness of myself and into a life of love for him and others. Nothing is smaller than living for one’s own desires and plans. Of course a larger place, isn’t always a safer place. When Jesus stretched out his arms to embrace the world, he got nailed.
